The International Ataxia Research Conference will be a comprehensive scientific review of new research into ataxias, covering topics from the molecular basis of disease to potential therapeutic treatments and clinical trials. The conference will include Friedreich’s ataxia and other recessive ataxias (e.g. ataxia with oculomotor apraxia), dominant ataxias (e.g. spinocerebellar ataxias, DRPLA, episodic ataxias) and autoimmune ataxias. The meeting is aimed at academic, clinical and industry researchers with an interest in ataxia research and drug development.

Session Topics to include:

We anticipate this being the largest and most comprehensive ataxia research conference to date, with significant international representation of academic researchers, clinicians, advocacy organizations, government agencies and biotech and pharmaceutical industry. We hope that you will join us for what will prove to be an exciting and significant two and half days for Ataxia research. Talks will be a mixture of invited speakers and talks selected from submitted abstracts, and the meeting will also include two poster sessions and a patient panel, as well as plenty of time for discussion and collaboration.

Conference History

The non-profit partners involved with the International Ataxia Research Conference are dedicated to collaboration and sharing of information in the ataxia space, and have a long history of successful international meetings. On the day following FARA's incorporation, the new organization submitted a grant application to the National Institutes of Health (NIH) for the first International Scientific Conference on Friedreich's Ataxia, convened April 1999. In order to expand these meetings run by individual groups and to share ideas more broadly, since 2015 FARA , Ataxia UK, GoFAR and other partners have worked together to cooperatively run the International Ataxia Research Conference on alternate years.

International conferences have been held by individual or groups of the nonprofit groups in 1999, 2003, 2006, 2008, 2011, 2012, 2015, and 2017.
